We currently farm about an acre. We use every inch possible, squeezing many rows of plants in a permanent planting bed, and turning over and replanting each bed multiple times throughout the season. We do everything to feed the soil life, so it remains alive and intact to keep doing what it does best. Because we grow in a small space without mechanical tractor implements, we can choose to grow varieties that have the highest nutrition and best flavor, instead of size and uniformity. We use organic amendments to add nutrition and organic matter to the soil.
One thing we constantly get asked, is βAre you Organic?β. The quick answer is no. While all the growing practices and farm inputs we use are within strict organic standards, we choose not to pay the prices for certification. This helps us keep our prices low, and focus on what we believe matters most to you: connecting our customers with the food they eat, improving our soil, environment, and water management. We are consistently investing in Windbreaks, Wildlife hedges, local pollinator habitat, reforestation, and cover cropping/mulching. Organic certification does not necessarily equate to sustainable practices, just food systems, or a healthy environment. The best way to do that is to become connected with your farmer.
Because you are our neighbors, we hope you will take us at our word that we never use any synthetic pesticides, herbicides, or GMOs on our farm. We are also committed to reducing plastic use on our farm. We do not use any single-use plastic mulches on our farm
